My grant project for 2022 was very successful. Ultimately it resulted in the recording, editing, and mixing of 33 tracks, three more than was proposed. Seven of these tracks were recorded by Michael DeQuattro, five were recorded by Carl Bugbee, and two were recorded by Dustin Patrick. All of the synthesizer, guitar, and bass tracks for the project have been recorded. It should only take one more grant cycle to complete the project. Four of the movements have only one track left to record, another four only need two more tracks for completion, while five have three tracks remaining. I plan on taking 2023 off from the project, but hope to return to it in 2024. In the meantime, I leave you with a fresh mix of Landscape 13: River that includes Michael DeQuattro’s drum set recording and my bass part in addition to Carl Bugbee’s guitar recording.
Landscape Update: December 3rd, 2022
November has yet again been an unproductive month for me, but Michael DeQuattro recorded two drum parts this month: Landscape 9: Desert and Landscape 10: Rocky Coast. I hope to at least one more recording in during this calendar year. This month I’ll leave you with an updated version of Landscape 11: Farmland which includes my harmonica and bass tracks.
Landscape Update: November 12th, 2022
October was not a very productive month for me. However previously I had rewritten the piano part of Landscape 2: Snow as a vibraphone part. Percussionist Dustin Patrick made a great recording of that vibraphone part. That recording also means that I reached the quota, that is I’ve had 30 tracks recorded for this grant cycle. In the month and a half that I have left on the grant I hope to get at least two more tracks recorded. On my end that will likely mean that I’ll record some harmonica tracks. This month I’ll leave you with an updated version of Landscape 4: Sand Dunes including my bass tracks and a new recording of the drumset part from Michael DeQuattro.
Landscape Update: August 27th, 2022
So, I’m pretty behind on my update for August, but I’m still sneaking it in under the wire. July was a very productive month for me. In fact, I lost track of everything I accomplished. Suffice it to say I got a lot of theremin recording done. Also, in early August Michael DeQuattro finished recording the drum part for Landscape 13: River. Honestly I won’t be accomplishing anything more in August, hopefully September will give me a bit more time.
For August I’ll leave you with the current realization of Landscape 1: Forest. This one is nearly completed, the only thing that hasn’t been recorded yet is the piano part. It features Carl Bugbee on guitar, Michael DeQuattro on drums, and myself on theremin, bass, & synthesizer. Musiversal’s Lisbon Orchestra (https://www.musiversal.com/) recorded the orchestral part.
Landscape Update: June 5th, 2022
May was a much more productive month than April was. I was able to record the bass and synthesizer part for Landscape 9: Desert. Michael DeQuattro was able to record the drum part for Landscape 7: Mountains. Thanks in large part to Michael and Carl Bugbee, I am halfway through what I hope to accomplish on the project this year.
For June I hope to record the bass part for Landscape 11: Farmland as well as some other tracks. I’ll leave you with an updated recording of Landscape 7: Mountains . . .
Landscape Update: March 20th, 2022
I’ve gotten very little finished in the past month, though I did complete the bass recording for Landscape 7: Mountains. I honestly don’t think I’ll complete anything else in March. In April I hope to get the synth part for Landscape 12: Autumn Forest recorded, if not more. I will leave you with a realization of Landscape 11: Farmland, that includes Carl Bugbee’s guitar part.
Landscape Update: February 6th, 2022
Carl Bugbee, from the band Take it to the Bridge, came through in a big way. He recorded the guitar parts for landscapes nine through 13. I will be unveiling these movements one by one over the next few months. I am halfway through recording the bass part to Landscape 7: Mountains, and expect to finish it in the next couple of weeks. After that I plan on recording the bass or synth part to Landscape 12: Autumn Forest. This month I’ll leave you with a realization of Landscape 9: Desert with Carl’s guitar part.
Announcement: Landscapes
Hello All: I’m pleased to announce that I have received professional development grant to work on the multichannel recordings for Landscapes. I suspected that it was likely that I would be awarded this grant, so I worked on the project a bit between when I applied, and when I was just informed of the grant decision. Thus, in that time I recorded a bass part for Landscape 1: Forest and Landscape 4: Sand Dunes, as well as a synthesizer part for Landscape 7: Mountains. I used my Moog Mother 32 for the synthesizer recording. I hope to start on a bass recording for Landscape 7 soon. As in previous years, I will post a monthly update to keep y’all appraised of my progress. I will leave you with an updated recording of Landscape 7: Mountains.
Landscape Update: December 25th, 2020
I finished my revision project a bit early. I revised the piano part of the fifth phrase of Landscape 12: Autumn Forest, and the pedal steel part for the fifth phrase of Landscape 13: River. I leave you with an updated recording of Landscape 1: Forest with a newly recorded synthesizer track with me playing my Moog Mother 32.
Landscape Update: December 12th, 2020
I’m a bit ahead of where I was last month at this time, but I could still be better positioned. In November I managed to revise the third phrase of the pedal steel part for Landscape 11: Farmland. Yesterday I recorded the synthesizer part for Landscape 1: Forest using my Moog Mother 32. This month I will leave you with an update of Landscape 10: Rocky Coast, which includes more orchestral samples, some trombone chords that I played, as well as a musique concrete part.
